Cereza & Ruben: Engagement Session at Tucson Hilton East

Cereza and Ruben got engaged and will be getting married in June of 2011. We did their engagement pictures at the Hotel Hilton East. It had been raining all morning and it was cloudy, nice and cool, I loved the way the colors and tones mixed with the backgrounds and her blue dress. She looked Hot! :o) They are very much in love and I loooved being their photographer. Ricky and I had a really good time sharing these special moments with both of them. Lauren & Matt: Refexions Buttes in Tucson

I met Lauren & Matt at the Tucson Wedding Expo last year. I felt really honored to be chosen as their wedding photographer out of so many vendors they saw that day. When the big day came, at the Reflexions Buttes, I was really looking forward to it. I loved all the little details they had prepared for their wedding. Every detail was a unique design. Grace Canale- Ward from Good Sunflower was in charge of the floral bouquet and arrangements which were absolutely amazing!. She is an outstanding floral designer and artist. Lauren looked gorgeous in her wedding gown, she looked like a little girl, excited and anxious jumping up and down as she walked waiting for the time to come. Her handsome husband-to-be: Matt, was totally relaxed along with his crew in the boys room. Family and friends enjoyed the reception, where the couple interacted with all their guests, danced and laughed. I wish I didn't have to make such a small selection of images to share their wedding with you all, but here they are anyways, just a few but truly amazing moments...

Quinceañera in Tucson: Karina

Karina had her Quinceanera celebration on March 26th. She added a personal touch to every single aspect of her party. She carefully reviewed every single detail and was involved in the whole process and planning. She recorded a speech that was played during the reception to thank God, her parents, her family and all her friends who have been part of her life and were there to celebrate with her on that special day. She is a talented girl, very sweet and super beautiful. She is an excellent dancer along with her brothers and cousins. They gave a very impressive improvised show, while all of the sudden they made a circle on the dance floor and stepped up to dance.

Quinceaños de Miguel Peña: La Previa (The Preview)

I have had the honor of being the photographer of Miguel's XV años celebration . I met Jenny, his mom, a couple of months ago and She shared with me that his son was going to turn 15 in March. They had chosen Miguel's Quince's theme to be The Count of Monte Cristo, like the movie. She wanted something really unique a for his son's party, Since I can't turn off my imagination, although sometimes I try, I got all kinds of ideas.

I wanted to take him up to Mount Lemon and do some shooting in the snow, something different. I wasn't sure what was going to be Jenny and Miguel's reaction, but fortunately, Jenny was excited and Miguel was all for it!. First we started with a photo-shoot which I call "La Previa" that means "The Preview", generally defined as: 'an advertisement consisting of short scenes from a motion picture that will appear in the near future'.... Of course, this time, taking it to a different context.
This is an idea that I've been wanting to introduce as an alternative to the classic slideshow with pictures of the XVñero (a) and his growing years. Just like the concept of "surprise dance" was brought to 'spice-up' the traditional waltz, The 'Movie trailer' brings an exciting surprise to the the guests who are invited to the reception. It's like a little taste of what it's coming, more like "You ain't seen nothing yet" kinda-thing...
People don't know all the things that Miguel had to go through during his photo-shoot and the production of his 'Preview'. We do. We put him to work. Even though he had been at a Quinceañera the previous night and had barely slept, he cooperated and pulled it through. His guests were expecting a sequence of pictures since he was born all the way through his teenage years, but he went a bit farther to give his family and friends a complete and unexpected surprise.

Miguel is definitely a super- super cool guy, not only he is extremely handsome but he is well mannered and loooves his parents. We had a blast during the production of his "Previa-Movie Trailer" and of course, his photo-shoot. I'm going to share some of my favs from the Previa, but keep tuned for the pictures from his Big Day.

Boudoir Photography (Tucson)

What is boudoir?...The word itself means "Bedroom" in French, but in reality, it means way more than that. Boudoir Photography is a new trend that has been developing in the later years. It consists of a photo-session in which women, in my opinion, look gorgeous beyond the usual. Many brides choose to experience this kind of photography and prepare a small repertoire of this images as a present to their future husband on their wedding day. Other women choose boudoir as a surprise for Anniversaries or as Birthday present for their boyfriend. And other women explore Boudoir Photography as a mere form of expression. I am personally fascinated by beauty in women. I like to always emphasize the glow in her eyes, her anatomy and her nature.

I am not afraid of nudity, nor I see it as something inappropriate, much less indecent. For me, the concept of nudity or even implied nudity, is an artistic expression of ones self in full awareness of our existence and acceptance as a unique and gifted creature.

Whatever the motive is for anyone to consider boudoir photography, it is important to understand that this artistic perspective of portraiture is intended to be natural, feminine and simple. It doesn't have to do with one's definition of perfection, but with our spiritual, mental and physical connection to express in a different way... subtle, intimate and still elegant.

I had the honor to be the photographer for a really really nice couple that live up in Seattle, Washington. Lety and Daniel aside from being a great looking couple, are great people, I mean really fine people. When we met for the first time, Lety was super excited about her wedding, I started to share my style with her, my vision, and explain what I like to accomplish on every wedding, and we totally clicked. So from that day, they got me me counting the day to meet them again for their wedding day. Lety and I kept very close communication through out the months until the wedding day came. We were on the same page, I knew all the important details that were going to be and that I could not miss.

The wedding took place at the beautiful Saguaro Buttes. I walked around and observed every little detail. I knew that the galletitas on the table were hand made with a family recipe, that the arras came all the way from Venezuela, that the souvenirs from their wedding were hand crafted by their family and were a beautiful piece of art called repujado. I felt so involved with the wedding that I could feel the warmth around them. It is such a great feeling to feel so loved even from miles away. Lety and Daniel have to consider themselves very fortunate to have their families with them on such a special day in their lives. Daniel's father played the guitar while he sang a Tango piece with such feeling that I got chills all over while I was shooting. Everything was perfect, Lety looked beautiful, elegant and classy, her bouquet made by Xochimilco Flowers was exquisite, the flowers were Black Magic Roses. Gorgeous.

There was absolutely nothing left behind. I want to congratulate them once more for their wedding, I wish them the best and I thank them for letting me be part of their wedding and all those special moments.

Griselda and Terry came from California to get married here in Tucson at the beautiful Saguaro Buttes. We had a lot of fun. Terry and Griselda went along with everything that came to my mind at the moment, I can almost say we played pretend!... we had such a good time while we were waiting for the guests that, every time something seemed appealing for a good shot, I call them and proposed the idea, and they went along with it. I must accept that I had a pretty good cheerleader team with me. I would say my idea out loud and Terry's friends would go and get Griselda and Terry for me to execute the plan. Ha! The sky was incredible that day, I couldn't get enough of it. Terry and Gris had a kind-of-shy demeanor so it reminded me of my great-grandparents wedding pictures, and we kind of reenacted a few of those cold-shy times by the fireplace, those times in which there wasn't much interaction between couples. It made me think how much it's said with the eyes, when there is not too much physical contact.

The toast and the party went on and everybody had an awesome time... I thank you Griselda and Terry for your sense of humor and the opportunity to be part of your wedding day. You guys make a great couple. Congratulations and Blessings...

Bridal Fashion and Trash The Dress in Tucson

For those Brides and Grooms who want to do something out of the ordinary, I suggest you to check out this post. I am an extremely passionate, inquisitive, and restless person, mentally and physically speaking. My mind has to always learn something new, experiment new things, new ideas, new activities, new concepts, new challenges. It helps me to create, to be innovative within my own style, to develop my artistic talent, to keep learning, to get inspired, to have fun.

This time, we decided to enjoy our beautiful Hot weather here in Tucson and give it a try by going straight to the dessert. As I mentioned in my BIO, I like strong contrasts. I like opposites, I like to merge things that 'don't go together' and find harmony among them. It's like watching an eclipse. You see that fusion take place and it makes you want to freeze time just to admire it a bit longer. Opposites such as light and strong shadows, water and dessert, stimulate my creativity. I intend to do the same thing with all of you by sharing these images.

Reyna and Vince were my absolute perfect couple to portray all those feelings in images. On one side you'll get addicted to Reynas' beauty. Her dazzling black eyes, the mystery in the way she looks, her diva attitude, her elegance, so feminine... an absolute gorgeous girl; on the other, you have the dessert, the sky, so plain, so simple. Vince, an absolute great looking guy, super relaxed, awesome smile, uncomplicated and totally cool...

What did we end up with? Commonly speaking, this is called a Fashion Bridal Photo shoot, or a Trash the Dress session which I absolutely enjoyed 150%. Clear skies, a beautiful moon, a gorgeous girl, a handsome guy, some interesting ruins somewhere in Tucson, water, rocks, a veil and my cowboy hat. The result: A really hot session in any and every context of the word:o)

Wedding Photography in Pine Top Arizona : Vanessa and Miguel

Vanessa and Miguel got married in a beautiful place up in the White Mountains called Pine Top. It is approximately a 4 hour drive from Tucson, but the locations was 100% worth it!. Vannessa got ready at a cabin and from there we headed to Hawley Lake where the ceremony took place. She looked absolutely gorgeous!. It was a bit chilly since we were right next to the lake and the wind was a bit cool. Me, well I was fully prepared for the weather but Vane seemed a bit cold, so I decided to get to work to warm up a bit. We were in the open, with cows in the background, the pines, the forest, the lake, everything was perfect for some shocking pictures, it was a lot of fun. I love nature, hiking, fishing, camping, so for me, this was the perfect scenario, I felt like a fish in the water. Vane did an awesome job during her bridal photo shoot, and I kind of wanted to give a touch of vintage to some of the images which gave them a different feeling and a different personality, but definitely, Vanessa was the icing of the cake with her natural beauty and sweet demeanor. After the ceremony we went for a ride in the lake, and I couldn't be any happier with my shots!... I got scenery, a hand-painted sky, the wind blowing her veil, what else could I have asked for?... A fun and loving couple... I got everything. I want to thank Vane and Migue for letting me be part of such an important day in your life. I trully enjoyed every second I spent with you guys on your wedding day. Hugs and Blesings for both of you.

Ms Planet Beach International Competition at Centro

The competition Ms Planet Beach International took place at the Centro Lounge in Downtown Tucson last Sunday. I was honored to be invited as a photographer to cover the event in this city. Planet Beach is an International Contempo Spa located in different cities throughout the US and other countries such as Ireland, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, New Zeland, UK, Mexico, Japan and South Africa. This franchise has been hosting this competition to promote and provide great opportunities for women who have an specific interest as entrepreneurs and a passion for personal self-improvement. The World Final competition will be taking place in Reno Nevada at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino on October 21, 2009. I'm proud to say that Tucson's Ms. Planet Beach winner is a extremely beautiful and talented girl and we wish her the best of luck. Here's the reportage.

Disneyland Hotel-Quinceanera for Brianna

Brianna had her Quinceañera at the beautiful Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California. Her parents and madrina helped get ready at the hotel and then we took a walk around to do take some photos around once she had her Cinderella dress on. This was a real dream come true. right before the ceremony an amazing Cinderella Carriage came to pick her up to take it to the ceremony site within the Hotel's premises where all the guests and family were waiting for her. Like a true princess, she walked down the isle with her Chambelan all dressed in white. The ceremony was full of emotions and then we headed to her reception. Brianna a very talented girl performed for all her guests with two surprise dances. A Tango, the first one, and a Middle Eastern Dance the second one. Very graceful... I love when the girls dedicate their time to learn something while their are growing up, whether is dance, playing an instrument, decorate, singing, a sport, anything. Women have to be multifaceted. It is not possible to go through life and live to step in front of a mirror and look pretty. There must be something else. There must be intellectual beauty, not only physical. So I really enjoy when girls prepare a surprise dance or some kind of performance for an audience. Brianna looked gorgeous and her proud parents were speechless to see her become such a gorgeous young woman. On the outside and the inside. Her family and friends danced all night and even performed themselves an awesome display of Michael Jackson's top hits with an impeccable choreography. I'm sure Brianna's XV will be unforgettable. I enjoyed this Quinceañera very much, I loved the family who are truly fine people, as much as I enjoyed working with my friends and colleagues Tacho and Rolex. These pictures were the story of a true princess: Briana. Enjoy.

Connie's girls were the flower girls and looked so beautiful! I had the opportunity to take pictures of them on their birthday when they were even younger and I was surprised to see how big they were already! Quinceañera in San Francisco California

Andrea turned 15 years and had a SUPER cool celebration... All her chambelanes and damas gathered at her residence from which all were taken by Limo to the Saints Peter and Paul Church where the religious ceremony took place. After mass, we all went to the beautiful Exploratorium to do her photoshoot session, everybody was all hyped-up and it was really fun. We headed then to the reception where the Mariachi was already waiting for Andrea to welcome her family and friends. The reception had been beautifully decorated with balloons, yellow flowers, butterflies and a Beauty and the Beast-theme cake. Then it was time for her first dance. The chambelanes did an awesome job, all perfectly syncronized. People were focused on every move and they didn't know that the best was yet to come. Andrea is a really really talented girl. She was on top of everything and had everything figured out and organized down to the minute. She changed clothes and gave her audience an absolute beautiful surprise dance. She danced a several folklorico dances with such a grace and charm that everybody raised from their seats to gave her a standing ovation. After a well deserved round of applauses and a dedication speech to thank her family for all the love and support, Banda La Conquistadora sent everyone to the dance floor... I was very lucky to be part of this quinceañera celebration and for having the fortune of covering it with my very very good friend and colleague Tacho from Xclusive Photography. Thank you Tacho.

Wedding at Tohono Chul Park: Erika and Santiago

Erika and Adalberto got married at the Tohono Chul Park in Tucson. It was a great vibe wedding!. Awesome atmosphere and very, very fine people... I was advised in advance by both, Erika and Santiago, that the best man had a unique personality, and indeed, he had. But Santiago failed to say that Erika and himself were a couple with a true and singular personality too! Erika is from the beautiful country of Panama and Santiago Alberto from the enchanting Puerto Rico. Both had a great attitude, and a particular sense of humor... I couln't help it, they got me laughing the whole time... Then it was time for the toast, The best man delivered powerful advise not only to the couple, but to all of us who were present at the time, advise that was meant to change the way people interact, and a true way towards building strong bonds as friends, as humans, and of course, as a couple. Then it was the turn for Erika's father and Santiago's mother, and, what can I say... those words were absolutely priceless... I really embrace the people who take a moment to deliver a speech or even a few words to the newly weds, their words of support and inspiration always bring great smiles, sometimes tears of joy but most important, unforgettable moments for the new married couple... Erika and Santiago, I thank you for letting me be part of your wedding...It was a great grat pleasure meeting both of you and your families...

Engagement Session in Tucson: Teresita and Mike

It was kind of like a last minute thing. Teresita, Mike and I, got together 4 days before their wedding day to do their engagement session. I find this super important for several reasons: First, many couples have pictures taken with their cellphone or at a reunion, but few have pictures of them while interacting and having a moment for themselves. An engagement session is just that. A lot of couples like to have a picture from this session at the reception entrance on their wedding day... I love it!...I also like the idea of having an engagement session because it is a great opportunity to interact with my couple. People may not see it, but the photographer is the only person whom they'll be interacting with at all times on their wedding day!. The cake, the flowers, the DJ, everything else will be where it's supposed to be, but the photographer is with the couple in every step of the way. That's why is sooo important to build that relationship, to get to know each other, to laugh, to have fun, to talk, to create the perfect atmosphere, to exchange ideas... A wedding day is hectic, time goes by really, really quick, one thing happens right after the other, but we, the photographers are always there to capture everything as it develops...sometimes we need to step back and shoot from a distance to tell the story in a photojournalistic way, and of course, sometimes we have to step in to enhance the moment, to get that chemistry in the air and direct the scene to be able to get those images that are striking... Not one couple is alike. Each one of them is different, we, as photographers cannot alter that. I can't make them kiss more than they want to, or have them stop if they can't...Their interaction cannot be changed, it can be enhanced or modified so each image feels real and IS real... At the end of the day, and I don't mean only their wedding day, those pictures should bring a smile in their face, a moment to remember and a very very pleasant experience...

Talia is a beautiful girl, very charming and fun to be with. We did her photo shoot at the Tucson Museum of Art.She chose a bright blue dress for her senior portrait session in which she looked gorgeous!. We found some really nice areas around to create more impact images with her outfit and her personality: Chic, confident and fresh... These are some of my favorites... Teresita and Michael Wedding at La placita Village in Downtown Tucson

It is contagious. Definitely, Love is contagious. When I met Teresita and Michael, I knew I wanted to be their wedding photographer. I liked the way they spoke at each other, the way they looked at each other, the way they asked for each other's opinions, the body language towards each other, I mean, I liked the conection between them, their chemistry, everything. There's a lot of things going on during a wedding, but they seemed to keep their mind in the most important place: themselves. The wedding day brings with itself a lot of pressure, worries, deadlines, preparation, stress, excitement, and Teresita and Michael had their mind set to enjoy the things that came with such an important day in their life. While shooting during their wedding, at La Placita Village I wasn't worried about the background which was extremely, extremely bright, or the weather and how that was going to affect her make up and such. I just wanted to make sure I captured the sweetness of their looks, their smiles, their tears of joy, their laughter. And I did. It seemed as though I also got my priorities straight too. The day before, we had their wedding rehearsal, and we made all kinds of planning about the weather which was going to be at 100 degrees, the sun which was going to be very bright at that point in time, and considered every possible scenario to make sure the background was going to be the appropriate one, the shades where we wanted them to be, etcetera. Needless to say, when the day and the moment came.. I refocused. Tucson is a very predictable city as far as weather is concerned. If the background was going to be bright, so be it. Even better for me as it was going to be the perfect scene for my perfect couple that day. The sun was my allied and the sunset gave me an absolutely awesome warm color as I shot at the Tucson Courthourse, the light came nicely through the columns and gave me such a romatic atmosphere!...just for them. Then we moved towards the fountain and the subtle wind became a witness of one of the most beautiful days of Teresita and Michael's lives. As the wind touched the water in the fountain, it decided to play a trick on them and gave them a nice breeze that caught them off guard, and at the same time gave me the best opportunity to capture their laughter while they enjoyed their moment alone.

I consider myself lucky. If it rains, if the sun is bright, if it gets cloudy, if the sunset is clear and there are no clouds around, if it's windy, if it pours, if I get to shoot with the rainbow, if I have clear blue skies, I do not care. Rachel and Adrian got married at a beautiful location in Tucson called Rancho Valle Milagro. Their wedding was super glamorous. There was absolutely no detail left behind. The theme was diamonds. From the welcome table, to the ice sculpture, her bouquet, the cake, I mean everything was an icon that perfectly fit Rachel's profile of style, glamour and perfection. Rachel reminded me of the Greek Godesses with her beautifully braided blond hair and the thick curls that gave her an accent to her gorgous facial features. Her wedding gown was a enchanting Sottero and Midgley desing. I really enjoyed being their wedding photographer, I have a tendency to picture in my mind the poses that fit the personality of every bride... Rachel, I wanted her striking, sensual, elegant. I have the luxury of working with an awesome team that allows me and every couple, the ability to see the full wedding from different angles and at different moments. While I was with Rachel, Michael Meares, my second photographer was 'writing' with his camara, the groom's story: Adrian's, who enjoyed the company of his brother and best man while the the moment came. In the meantime, Ricardo, my primary exclusive Videographer from Enzeru Productions was capturing the best of the best as this awesome wedding developed. Annie and Jason got married at the beautiful St Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point California. Their wedding was absolutely beautiful. I had the opportunity to work with my good friend Rodolfo Arpia and second shot for him. I have to confess that I enjoy being second shooter just as much as I enjoy being the primary. Three reasons: I get to observe other stories that are happening as the wedding develops. The main focus is Always the groom and the bride, of course, but the reason why they have family and friends with them, is because THEY are part of their celebration too. So they are a very important part of their wedding day. The joy of having the people that we love with us sharing our special moments, is what makes our life even more extraordinary. Happiness has to be shared to fully enjoy every bit of it. The second reason why I enjoy second shooting is that the groom and the bride don't feel the presure of having to listen to what I have to say, therefore they tend to be more relaxed and are not waiting for my instructions on what to do, as second shooter we capture 100% natural feelings, spontaneous expressions and trully beautifull candind moments. The third and last but not least is that toghether, with the main photographer, I contribute to tell the full story from diferent angles, different perspectives, different moments, different aspects, and we are able to present each couple whit the ability to live those unforgettable moments many years after, not only by showing them what they saw, but also what they didn't see on that special day. Mark and Jen's Wedding at Canoa Ranch Resort and Rancho Sahuarita

I was honored to be the photographer of a beautiful wedding in Sahuarita Arizona. The Religious ceremony took place in a little chappel called San Martin de Porres which is located in a kind of a remote location in Sahuarita. It is right in the middle of a pecan field. I personally like this little church in which I have been in several ocassion for other weddings and quinceañeras. When the time is right, that field looks beautiful, and as the sun is coming down, it hides between the trees and the light penetrates in the field in an almost magic way.

The church is really not that far from the main road, maybe a couple of minutes off-road but well worth it due to the particularity of this beautiful place.

Jennifer and her family was warmly welcomed by Father Shay. The celebration was very inspiring and Jennifer and Mark were honored to have the company of many friends and family who traveled from different places out of state to be with them in their wedding day.

Jennifer's smile was without a doubt the main highlight of the day. I'm not sure how she managed to have every single detail taken care of. She personally coordinated everything for her wedding and it came out perfectly. She was relaxed and smiled from beggining to end and enjoyed every bit of this special day.

After mass, we headed to Wyndham Canoa Ranch Resort in Green Valley where their picture session took place. This is a beautiful resort with a relaxing lake view and great golf courses. We were very lucky to have a nice warm afternoon and clear sky since there was a 75% chance of rain that day. The pictures came out perfect with an awesome contrast between the blue sky, the green fields, the lake, the Yellow Hummer-like golf car, and Jennifer's elegant white dress and her absolute gorgeous gray eyes...

After the photo session, we went over to the Lake at Rancho Sahuarita to take family pictures and then headed for the reception at Club Rancho Sahuarita . Friends and family enjoyed a coctail while Jen and Mark personally welcomed everybody. Dinner was a combination of delicious Philippino and American cuisine.

Mark and Jennifer were very thankful for all the support and the kindness of all the people who came to join them in celebrating their wedding. On my behalf, I can only say I'm very happy and thankful to both for allowing me to be part of this important moment in their lives. Thanks Jen and Mark!

Enrique's Senior Pictures were a workout for everybody. It is so amazing to see talent in these guys. I personally am someone very much connected with sports. My father was a professional baseball player and Soccer is a religion in my family. During Highscool I was in the basketball team in my school and when I was younger I did Gymnastics for several years. So when I see a guy like Enrique that has such ability to play soccer and basketball I get really into-it!... Enrique is a cool guy and his photo shoot was a true warm up... we wanted to get who he is during the shooting and I think images speak for themselves... Enjoy...

Jorge, Jose and I had an awesome time during their Senior High School photo shoot in Downtown Tucson. We also went over to an undisclosed location to take a few more intriguing shots. It was really fun being with them because they went along with all my ideas of having them play the guitar at the sidewalk while we were in 4th Avenue. Both, Jorge and Jose play the guitar really cool and had no problem playing it for...money...I mean, just pretending..hahaha.

Afterwards, we did something a bit different. We got some cool shots perfect for a horror movie or a mystery tv show or something, we did this at an old house's basement. It was creepy and fun. I like shadows and dramatic images that depict a mood or an atmosphere. Directing the scenes for the photoshoot was fun...

Nowadays I guess young people don't want to smile that much while they look at the camara!. And furthermore, they hardly want to look at the camara!...When I was in highschool that's all we wanted to do while people took pictures of us!... I like it both ways, serious and smiley...Anyways, we had a little bit of laughter and some 'serious' shots. Guys, you were awesome and It was a pleasure shooting with and for you guys...

I had a hard time picking the pictures I wanted to share with you in this post. As I have mentioned before, beauty is something I easily find in every person, but I have to sound redundant again and tell you that Ashley was absolutely beautiful!. She has a kind-of-shy demeanor, a sublte Giocconda-like smile that is very addictive to be looking at, and a pair of gorgeous blue eyes that stand out in such a light skin. She reminds me of those Porcelain Figurines in some images, or the image of Kelly McGillis from the Top Gun movie in the 80's or the elegance of Nicole Kidman in others. I don't know, her delicate features and her sweet personality is something that came out beautifully in every image and I think you'll all enjoy this photoshoot that took place in Downtown Tucson in a vibrant display of rich solid colors that gave an accent to Ashley's beauty.

For those of you that know me very well, you'll know how much I'm enjoying this post. When I used to live in Mexico city I was lucky enough to do gymnastics since I was probably 5 years old. There is no other sport that I like more than this one. After moving to Guaymas Sonora Mexico I was not able to continue my trainig, and now that I'm able to capture the motion, the beauty, the forms, the elegance, the discipline and the strenght that this sport requires, I can't help but to stare at it and look at this amazing pictures over and over again.

This Saturday December the 13th, The Holiday Showcase will be taking place at the Gymnastics World in the Tucson East location. I was able to get some really really cool shots a couple of weeks ago while the girls were practicing for a Competition held in Phoenix. The girls were focused, concentrated and practiced their routines with such gracefulness, that I could see they were ready for the challenge. Tomorrow, I'm exiced for what we are going to see, the instructors are very dedicated and talented people, and trully look for excellence in every aspect. They, as well as the girls have done a tremendous job during training all year long, so what we are about to see tomorrw should be nothing but a great performance that I'm really looking forward to enjoying...

Kids: Heidi and Evylynn, like night and day...can't decide which one I like the most!

Heidy and Evylynn are two little sisters that took my heart away since I met them. I have a particular curiosity for kids since I like to figure them out within the first 2 minutes I see them for the first time. Then, things get easier. I love to figure out if they are shy or just pretending to be, if they are unpredictable or if they'll show an expected behavior; or if they are what is called: a "trooper" or perhaps a princess that just came out of an enchanted castle tale...
Evylynn is the last one. She's delicate...and charming and ...just sweet!!... and the way she moves is a lovely display to look at...looking at the opposite side I saw Heidy. She fills you up with energy and is a real trooper. She likes adventure, challenge and action. I intrigues me how two sisters can be so different. I relate more to Heidy, but sometimes I wish I could slow down and move in slow motion like Evylynn does...like a princess. I enjoyed every bit of the photoshoot...being around kids is a wonderful experience, and they keep reminding me how important is to carefully look at the world through their eyes, yep, the same world that sometimes may seem too inconspicuous to us...

It has green areas, a pond and a gazebo that adds that extra touch of romantic atmosphere during the day as well as at night. Ambar and Justin got ready at the site surounded by all his/her friends who help them relax and enjoy every moment. Their wedding was elegant and classy. It was evident to see how their families were fill with emotion to see this young couple exchanged their vows to become one. For many women, maternity pictures may not be their first item in their wish list. For me, it's a moment that must be kept in a place other than in our memory. There is something about pregnancy that makes women look different, of course, besides the obvious. There is a shine in their eyes that makes them glow entirely. Must be that there is life within life, and that beam of light slips through their eyes.

I love to see pregnant women carry themselves proud and confident. Their anatomy didn't loose its appeal, on the contrary, it was enhanced; redesigned to eclose a little world, perfectly round and alive. It moves with purpose and responds to the outside world, to the noise and to the music, and perceives light and it feels. Pregnancy is a long journey but an unforgettable one. When it's over, it's hard not to want to see those images again. As a kid, I loved to look at my mother's picures while she carried me in her belly. There was an excitement as if I were going to be able to see through it. And I couldn't, but it didn't matter, it still made me smile and wonder. Now after the years have passed, to see a picture of my mom while she was expecting me, builds a strong bond between us, it's like our 'little secret', Our 'thing'.

Zulema is the perfect example of this glow and this bond. I don't think there is much left to be said. What I just described was clearly captured in these two portraits. As soon as I got into her room I knew exactly what I wanted to do and how I wanted the light to strike. On the image above, I asked her to come by the window to allow the daylight on her face. She put her hands behind her, leant against the wall, and voilá! That was it. There was no need for anything else. She looked beautiful as whe was. Her eyes were already lit by the source she had inside of her: the baby. The rest was just the frame to mould the image. I worked this picture as if it was a paint. I used "brushes" to create effects over a 'canvas' and the result is very pleasing as it outlines the eyes and the expresion.

Salsa in Tucson: You haven't seen it all!...

So, Sahuaros, Desert, and what else is there in Tucson?... It's all how you look at it. We can complain olny about two things: that we don't have a beach, and during summer it gets a little too warm (I honestly love this weather and the blue sky 360 days a year). Tucson is a great place to live in. It may not have it all, but we have it within reach. The beach is just a few hours from here, either by heading to Mexico or to California. During winter, we have snow up in the Catalina Mountains just one hour away from the city; The Salt River up in Phoenix, Sky Diving 30 minutes from Downtown AND although we're not in Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Caribbean or near those places... yes, we have Salsa!!.

I am extremely excited to share with you a video that I did with so many cool shots I captured that night!. I wish I could have put them all but you can always check all the pictures later. The Host: Ritmos Latinos at the University of Arizona. This organization, as I say, at the U of A, promotes Latin music and dance to all its students as well as people like me who are not part of the Uni, but love Salsa. The event took place at the U of A Grand Ballroom and one of the Best Salsa Bands in Tucson: Salsarengue played for all of us some powerful Salsa and Merengue. People from all ages and nationalities gathered to enjoy the Ritmos Latinos' performace and of course to dance!. If I were to describe with a few words what happened that night, I would say that it was an awesome display of Beauty, Talent, Charm, Sensuality, and this one, I'm going to say it in spanish:Puro SABOR!! ... Check it out for yourself, because I'm sure, unless you were there, You haven't seen it all... and for those of you who live here in Tucson, see you next semester at the Ritmos Latinos!

You are going to enjoy this one! Last Saturday Karla celebrated her Quinceanera, finally!!, after several months of rehearsal and planning...that's right, the day came. Well, a lot of people expect quinceañeras to be the typical party with waltz dance and a toast. This was NOT the case. And I loved it!!!..It was just AWESOME!!..Having fun was not exclusive to the people invited: The Photographer had a blast!!..And that was me!:o) In the last two years I had the opportunity to shoot Quinceaneras and it had been a while, a few months, since I got another chance until last Saturday. I almost forgot what it feels like. But now I remembered it all, and honestly, I don't want to forget. It was almost like when you go to your favorite artist concert. He comes out from backstage and all the people screaming, the lights, the loud music!...all that energy...all that energy...ALL THAT ENERGY!! That was it!!. Teenagers have So Much Energy!. The 2 days previous to the quinceanera, I couln't go to the gym, I had been very busy. Thank God. These kids were my workout for the week!...I have to accept that being arround teenagers makes me feel like I'm 15 too. It's not like I'm too old either, I just have twice their age, that's it. But I just love being around them!, they are funny, spontaneous, they are not afraid to be happy, not afraid to be themselves, they are just totally cool!..They can perfectly understands the concept of things and events.

The mass celebration at the Church, was a well handled ceremony. Everybody participated, showed respect for the ritual, the priest and what it meant for Karla and her family. Each one of them bowed as they stopped in front of the altar and were prepared to receive the holly communion, as practiced by Catholics. Karla then received the blessings from her parents and the priest; then proceded to offer flowers to the Virgin Mary. This Celebration has a significant moral and social meaning for the Hispanic Culture. My culture. And in my humble opinion, it gives me a lot of pride to see how hispanic teenagers are not only capable of fullfilling different expectations in a religious, social and cultural aspect but also, the will to exceed such expectations.

When it was time to be disciplined, they behaved. When it was time to follow my directons, they did so. When it was time to be themselves, they practiced their particular individuality. When it was time to work as a team, they stayed together. When it was time to shine, they performed. When it was time to dance,...wow!, they danced!!. Karla headed the group. And she was just drop dead gorgeous. She looked like a movie star. Her beauty was not only from the outside, but on the inside too, which is what made her look even more beautiful. Dedicated to her parents, constantly looked for her mom for help to fix her dress and all those little details. Her dad seemed so proud, and had a reason for it. Karla is a sweet and talented girl. Her friends showed her how much they like her and they were concentrated in making Karla's party, an unforgettable one.

They all preformed a remix of different music rithms: Salsa, merengue, hip-hop, rock, etc. All perfectly sincronized. Beautiful choreography!..it was an awesome performance night for everybody...But for Karla, it was a great opportunity to realize that at her age, her parents, her famlily and her friends are there to provide support, to celebrate and to be part of her dreams...And I, I had the fortune to capture all these moments and expressions so that she can to come back to them many years after this day. I can't wait for my next quinceanera...Congratulations Karla!

Darlene & David: Classy, Elegant and...Magic!

Darlene and David held their reception at Saguaro Buttes. This is a beautiful location in Tucson with a natural landscape featuring precisely that: Saguaros. The whole setting in this place was very romantic and breath taking. Darlene and her bridesmaids arrived in a Limousine at the site where her wedding was to take place. Her mother, sisters and close friends helped her to get ready making sure that every single detail was perfect. And it was. Darlene looked just gorgeous and David was captivated by her beauty. Both David and Darlene enjoyed their special day together, and invited close relatives for the family pictures right after the ceremony. They were saving the best for last. David wanted to wait for the sunset to get the astonishing background that Tucson shows every afternoon. David couldn't choose a better view: The sunset, the saguaros and the mountains were the silent witnesses. The colors of sunset intensified the ambience and there was something in the air that prompted for exquisites shots!
Dinner, toast and the cake cutting took place right after their picture session and the dance floor was the perfect scenario for the bouque and garter toss. For Darlene and David, I'm sure this experience was funny and unforgettable to say the least!. The couple left to Italy for their honeymoon, and Darlene described Italy as Magic, and I believed her!, it's just that I think that loving and caring for each other the way they do, is what made their honeymoon: trully magic.

Lucero and the Mariachi Conference

Last Friday, April the 25th, something amazing happened! I got way too close to my Country, my Mexico, my roots, my culture, my folklore, my traditions, my music...ah!my music... all in one place!. The 2008 International Mariachi Conference took place at the Tucson Convention Center. This time: Lucero was the headline. I couldn't believe this event has been an ongoing presentation for the past 8 years and I had been missing it!!. You have to experience this feast of colors, instruments, voices, the dances, I mean, everything!. Let me tell you that I am sooo proud of having such a tremendous and rich cultural background. The mariachi music involves so much passion, so much feeling that it's hard to describe, just powerful, period. The folklorico dances were a beautiful display of colors and sincronized tapping that made my heart beat faster. So much talent, so many little kids with an incredible ability to play the instruments so flawlesly. Lucero: beautiful, enchanting..what else is new with Lucero...Anyways, here are a few pictures, make sure to double click on the Album to see a Full page display!! Liza and Manny will be getting married this coming Saturday 26th!. They will have their wedding Ceremony and Reception in a beautiful place called: Reflections at the Buttes. These pictures were taken during their Engagement Session in February, Can you tell how much they are in love?, isn't it obvious?...Yep! they are!! No doubt! They share this special bond hard to explain, it does seem like they are made for each other...Liza sent me the cover of the DVD She made for her invitation and I thought I definitely wanted to share it here. The design caught my attention because I thought it clearly defined their personality as a couple. She chose pink: Not baby pink, Deep pink, passionate and sweet. Him, black: interesting and uncomplicated. Two different colors, a glamorous contrast, then, a touch of elegance right on the center resembling round traces which transmit closenes, bonding. Their relationship was summarized in very simple and uncomplicated terms: "One Love".

Drea and Mike, just Save Room for all those incredible moments that are coming soon!, you guys make a GREAT couple!!. it was a pleasure being your wedding photographer!,

Their wedding took place this past April the 5th at the Santa Cruz Church located on 1220 S 6th Ave in Tucson, AZ. This is one of the most beautiful Churches in Tucson. There is an interior garden with a just as beautiful hallway. Andrea got ready at the Church with the help of her sister, her bridesmaids and of course her mom and dad who gave her their blessing before the holy mass began.

Meanwhile, Mike was waiting for the moment, talking to his best man, mother and father and greeting other family members and friends that accompanied them in this special day.

After mass, they took a well deserved break for about an hour and then we were ready for their one-on-one Picture Session. Initially, it was going to be at the Z Mansion but the Sun was pretty bright, so we decided to go to the Court House Building a couple of blocks from the Z Mansion. This building is located in Downtown and is considered a landmark in Tucson. We could not pick a better setting for the photo session. It was just perfect: the lighting, the scenery, and mostly, all that building just for us!. Drea and Mike just kept that aweseome smile and sense of humor the whole time, which is the perfect combination for excellent images. The expressions just came out so naturally!! I could see that glow in their faces and the way they looked at each other...it was so refreshing!

Then it was time for the group pictures with the Bridal party at the Z Mansion. Beautiful. We still had some sun on the fasade of this Historical Victorian style residence, but here in Tucson we always manage to save room for our beautiful sun. Can't live with it, and can't live without it. I must say that I just love it.
I really enjoyed seeing how much fun you guys had together! I strongly believe that having fun is one of the primary ingredients to reach happines. The group pictures came out awesome and then the party began! I hope you guys like this small video. It is a small recap of this incredible day...

Can you resist Nature's Whim?

I couldn't. Last January I was doing the dishes in my kitchen and as I looked through the window I realized the Catalina Mountains had this deep orange color, almost red. For a moment I thought if it was possible that the city was on fire or something because they looked unusually orange!. I stepped outside just to find before my eyes an awesome display. I sat and admired in shock and awe The Nature's whim of the day. Cookie cutted clouds in oval shapes. Several of them. The sky had been handpainted in dark brown colors mixed with dark orange and dark yellow, It seemed as though if someone smudged oil paint over a canvas and created a new image of the sky, just because. Why "Eclipsi"?
Several reasons. A lot of things have fascinated me since I was a little kid. A few have determined my personality and who I am. Three things have caught my attention predominantly: Languages, People, and the Universe.

My interest for the first comes from my father. He imbued the beauty of languages, cultures and hence diversity. I have a singular interest for Romance Languages, meaning the ones derived from Latin, such as Portuguese, French, Italian and Spanish. (Interestingly, there is only one more Romance Language and that is Rumanian). But there is another language that sparked my mind: Greek. It was the very fist alphabet I saw after the Spanish one. My brother showed me the signs and I couldn’t believe there was another form of communication besides my own language. I must have been 5 years old. The Omega sign “Ω” caught immediately my attention and since then, I ‘adopted’ it as something that identifies me. I won’t deny that Spanish is my favorite language, but the fact that the etymology of a large number of its words comes from the Greek, makes me see that perfect bond between these two languages.

I am originally from Mexico City, one of the most mystic and beautiful cities in the world. (This statement is completely subjective). One cannot escape from being captivated by the magic it possesses.

Living in Mexico City, looking at the sky at night, I realized there were no stars, and often, no moon to see. So when I got to see a clear sky at night for the first time, I couldn’t get enough of it. I just fell in love right there and then. I thought I was so lucky to live in a planet, which during the day had so many forms and colors, and at night, the absence of these and the simplicity of a shadow and light made the most beautiful sight one could imagine. (Plato in his “Republic” refers the things that we perceive as real being actually just shadows on a wall.)

Latter on in my life, one night during a Lunar eclipse, (February 20th, 2008 to be precise), I realized that sometimes, we are a pure combination of light and shadows, and I don't mean it in any religious way. I mean to say that our expressions and our emotions, are like lights and shadows drawing our personality. One allows us to see the beauty of the other. Photography allows me to "draw" people's personality with images.Those two worlds. The contrast of a smile and an inquisitive look, a tear and a frown, a sweet look and a dominant one have to be captured. Both interesting, both enchanting, both revealing. That contrast is what I look for when I’m taking pictures: The eclipse in each individual...
